On the 30th of September 2026 Blind Justice UK served the Solicitors Regulation Authority with a letter before claim for judicial review. The SRA's response is due on the 15th of October 2026.
The claim concerns the SRA's practice of closing reports from members of the public without investigation, on the regulated person's own account of events, and without any route by which the person who reported can have that decision examined.
The SRA decides whether to investigate, and the SRA decides whether the SRA should reconsider. On the 1st of September we asked it nine questions about who checks a closure decision, who can challenge it and what happens when one may be wrong. On the 30th of September it replied without answering any of them.
The letter before claim is not published, because its particulars identify the solicitor concerned. A redacted copy is available to the press on request.

Blind Justice UK has written to Members of the House of Commons and the House of Lords asking that one question be put to the Solicitors Regulation Authority: who can require the SRA to look again at a decision not to investigate, and under which rule. The letter sets out why we have served the SRA with a letter before claim for judicial review and what we are asking Parliament to do.
