The Invisible Ombudsman

Published July 2026. A Blind Justice UK investigation.

The Legal Ombudsman publishes its decisions against named law firms as a rolling twelve month file and removes each one after a year. Blind Justice retrieved five expired versions of that file from the Internet Archive and counted 11,448 decisions that had been published and then removed from public view, against 939 still visible when the research was done. 

Modelling the fourteen years since publication began gives an estimated 24,000 to 28,000 decisions no longer on the live record. A consumer instructing a firm today cannot see its record from two years ago through the Ombudsman's own site. The report was submitted as evidence to the consultation on publishing ombudsman decisions.
